Job summary

The Chautauqua Center, Inc. (TCC Health) is seeking an Ophthalmologist to diagnose, treat, and prevent eye diseases and injuries, and to lead comprehensive eye care within a multidisciplinary team.

You will perform comprehensive exams, cataract and other ocular surgeries, prescribe medications, manage postoperative care, and educate patients on vision health while collaborating with specialists across services in Upstate NY.

Qualifications

• CPR certification required.
• Knowledge of current medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment principles for ophthalmology.
• Licensed to practice ophthalmology in New York state.
• Graduate of an accredited college with a Doctor of Medicine degree.

Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive examinations of the visual system to determine ocular disorders.
• Performs ophthalmic surgeries including cataract, glaucoma, refractive, corneal, vitreo-retinal, eye muscle, and oculoplastic procedures.
• Diagnoses or treats eye diseases involving the cornea, sclera, conjunctiva, and eyelids.
• Documents and evaluates patients' medical histories.
• Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic tests; directs postoperative care and treatment plans.
• Prescribes medications and manages pain; performs laser surgeries as needed.
• Educates patients about maintaining healthy vision.
• Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to provide optimal patient care.
• References patients for specialized treatments when needed.
• Instructs interns/residents in ophthalmologic procedures.
• Prescribes ophthalmic treatments including chemotherapy, cryotherapy, and low-vision therapy.
• Prescribes glasses and contact lenses.

Position Summary:

• The Ophthalmologist will diagnose, treat, and help prevent diseases and injuries of the eyes and related structures.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities of the Position:

• Performs comprehensive examinations of the visual system to determine the nature or extent of ocular disorders.


• Performs ophthalmic surgeries such as cataract, glaucoma, refractive, corneal, vitro-retinal, eye muscle, and oculoplastic surgeries.


• Diagnoses or treats injuries, disorders, and diseases of the eye and eye structures including the cornea, sclera, conjunctiva, and eyelids.


• Documents and evaluates patients' medical histories.


• Performs, orders, and interprets results of diagnostic or clinical tests. Provides or directs the provision of postoperative care. Develops treatment plans based on patients' histories and goals, the nature and severity of disorders, and treatment risks and benefits.


• Prescribes and administers topical or systemic medications to treat ophthalmic conditions and to manage pain.


• Performs laser surgeries to alter, remove, reshape, or replace ocular tissue.


• Educates patients about maintenance and promotion of healthy vision.


• Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams of health professionals to provide optimal patient care.


• Refers patients for more specialized treatments when conditions exceed experience, expertise, or scope of practice of practitioner.


• Instructs interns, residents, or others in ophthalmologic procedures and techniques.


• Prescribes ophthalmologic treatments and therapies such as chemotherapy, cryotherapy, and low-vision therapy.


• Prescribes corrective lenses such as glasses and contact lenses.

Position Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

• CPR certified


• Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise


• Licensed to work in the state of New York as an Ophthalmologist


• Graduated from an accredited college with a doctorate in medicine.

The Chautauqua Center (TCC), a Community Health Center, is located on the border of Pennsylvania and Buffalo, NY centered in wine country, master breweries, more than 5 local lakes, the finger lakes region and home of Lucille Ball and the National Comedy Center. Our Dental offices include northern end of Chautauqua (Dunkirk, Gowanda and Forestville) and Jamestown, NY.
