Job summary

UPMC’s Urgent Eye Care Center in Pittsburgh seeks an Ophthalmic Technician to support comprehensive eye care in a fast-paced, patient-focused setting. The role features four 10-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, with a focus on accurate testing, patient histories, and smooth clinic flow.

Responsibilities include performing visual acuity tests, lensometry, tonometry, refractometry, and assisting ophthalmologists during exams and treatments.

Qualifications

• History taking including ocular, medical, medication, social and family history.
• Perform ophthalmic testing and diagnostic procedures.
• Assist providers with examinations and treatments.
• Educate patients and maintain efficient patient flow.

UPMC is hiring an Ophthalmic Technician to support the Urgent Eye Care Center, providing high-quality ophthalmic care in a fast-paced and patient-focused environment. This position offers a convenient four 10-hour shift schedule Monday through Friday, allowing for enhanced work-life balance. The Urgent Eye Care Center is open 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with schedules based on clinic needs. Responsibilities include obtaining patient histories, performing ophthalmic testing and diagnostic procedures, assisting providers with examinations and treatments, educating patients, and ensuring efficient patient flow. Responsibilities:

• History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family.Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuityLensometry: automated and manualPupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate.Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fieldsOcular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmusRefractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to -
• Tonometry: ICare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of each.Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare testAngle assessment & dilation of pupils.Contact lenses: insertion, removal, and instructions.Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day.Travel to other clinical sites.
