Job summary

UPMC is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to support the Ophthalmology Department at 4401 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15224. The full-time role runs Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.

to 4:30 p.m., with no weekends or holidays, offering a strong work-life balance. You will work closely with ophthalmologists and staff to deliver high-quality patient care, perform diagnostic testing, collect histories, and assist with exams and procedures.

Qualifications

• Travel to other clinical sites up to 10%.
• Assist ophthalmologists and staff with examinations and procedures.
• Perform diagnostic testing and data collection (history, visual acuity, tonometry, refraction).
• Maintain inventory and sterilize instruments.
• Support patient exam rooms at end of day.

Responsibilities

• Take ocular, medical, medication histories; assess vision.
• Perform visual acuity assessment with/without correction; pinhole testing.
• Conduct tonometry, refractometry, and lensometry as directed.
• Assist with dilation and pupil assessment; support exams and procedures.
• Travel to other clinical sites as needed; maintain clean exam rooms.

UPMC is hiring an Ophthalmic Technician to support the Ophthalmology Department at 4401 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15224. This full-time position works Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with no weekends or holidays, offering an excellent work-life balance. Responsibilities:

• History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family.Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuityLensometry: automated and manualPupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate.Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fieldsOcular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmusRefractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to -
• Tonometry: ICare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of each.Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare testAngle assessment & dilation of pupils.Contact lenses: insertion, removal, and instructions.Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day.Travel to other clinical sites.
