Job summary

Physician Directed Partners (PDP) is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to join a fast-growing ophthalmology practice. You will perform preliminary exams, diagnostic testing, and provide exceptional patient care in a hands-on clinic environment.

Responsibilities include patient introductions, documenting ocular findings, pre-exam testing, lensometry, and imaging. The role supports the physician with procedures, medication education, and equipment maintenance, with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in a medical practice preferred but not required.
  • Detail oriented and self-motivated.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer and EHR software.
  • Ability to be proactive and take initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Make introductions and establish rapport with patients, document chief complaint and ocular findings accurately.
  • Perform pre-exam testing including visual acuity, pupillary evaluation, tonometry, dilation, and other tests as requested by the physician.
  • Perform lensometry and tests such as visual fields, keratometry, A/B scans, and ophthalmic photography/OCT.
  • Complete prescription refills as authorized by the physician with full documentation.
  • Assist with minor surgical procedures or laser treatments in the office.
  • Educate patients on medications and pre-/post-operative instructions.
  • Check expiration date and inventory of culture plates and supplies; maintain inventory.
  • Screens calls from patients and respond or refer appropriately.
  • Open/close exam lanes; ensure equipment is properly maintained and powered down.
  • Follow safety procedures and perform other duties as assigned.
  • After year one, assist with 15+ patients per day while maintaining service standards.
