UPMC is hiring an Ophthalmic Technician to support the Ophthalmology Department at 4401 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15224. This full-time position works Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m.

Responsibilities

• Take patient histories including ocular, medical, medication, social and family history.
• Perform visual acuity assessment with and without correction at various distances.
• Perform lensometry and pupillary assessment; conduct visual field testing.
• Assist with refractometry testing and related procedures.
• Tonometry: use ICare and Tonopen with proper disinfection.
• Support supplemental skills: color testing and glare testing.
• Angle assessment and pupil dilation.
• Insert, remove, and instruct on contact lenses.
• Maintain office inventory, restock supplies, and clean/sterilize instruments and exam rooms.
• Travel to other clinical sites.

• History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family.Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuityLensometry: automated and manualPupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate.Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fieldsOcular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmusRefractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to -
