Job summary

UPMC Comprehensive Eye Service is hiring a full-time Ophthalmic Technician to join their team at Mercy. This daytime role runs Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 5:30pm, with no evenings or weekends and select holidays off.

The position involves collecting patient history and conducting a range of eye exams, such as simple follow-ups, diabetic eye exams, comprehensive exams, and cataract evaluations, to support diagnosis and treatment planning.

Qualifications

• History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family.
• Visual acuity assessment with and without correction; distance, near, intermediate; pinhole; BCVA.

Responsibilities

• Obtain detailed patient information and perform a variety of diagnostic tests for eye care.
• Assist with maintaining office inventory, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing instruments, and traveling to other clinical sites.

UPMC Comprehensive Eye Service is hiring a full-time Ophthalmic Technician to join their team at Mercy. This is a Monday through Friday daylight position with hours between 7:30am to 5:30pm, dependent on clinic schedules. No evenings, weekends, and select holidays off!

Purpose

Obtain detailed information from patients and perform a variety of diagnostic tests to the eyes to aid in the diagnosis and treatment course.

Responsibilities

• History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family. Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuity. Lensometry: automated and manual. Pupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate. Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fields Ocular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmus. Refractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to -
• Tonometry: ICare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of each. Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare test. Angle assessment & dilation of pupils. Contact lenses: insertion, removal, and instructions. Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day. Travel to other clinical sites.
