Job summary

Tufts Medicine's New England Eye Center in Boston seeks an Ophthalmic Technician II to provide medical and clinical support, perform a range of eye-related screenings and imaging, and assist with in-office procedures. The role includes patient flow, training of new technicians, and ensuring equipment readiness.

The ideal candidate will have at least two years of ophthalmic technician experience, a high school diploma, and relevant certifications or the ability to obtain them.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; certification preferred.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant or Certified Retinal Angiographer preferred.
  • BLS certification or ability to obtain within 3 months.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patient for physician evaluation by collecting history and meds.
  • Perform screenings: vision, refractions, keratometry, pressure measurement.
  • Assist with imaging: OCT, visual fields, fundus photography, topography.
  • Support ultrasound and electrophysiology tests when needed.
  • Assist with contact lens removal and in-office procedures.
  • Set up exam rooms, maintain supplies and education materials.
  • Document exam components in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Ensure instrument cleaning and sterility per guidelines.
