Salary Range: $28.63-$32.36

*As required under NYC Human Rights Law Int 1208-2018 - Salary range for this role when Hired for NYC Offices

Position Summary

Under general direction, performs basic diagnostic ophthalmic tests and provides administrative and patient care support to the practice. This role also assists with and maintains efficient patient flow.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Ensures patient safety is maintained at all times.
  2. Responsible for maintaining a sterile environment. Ensures standard infection control precautions are observed.
  3. Obtains pre-procedural consent forms and related documentation. Educates patients regarding medication administration and pre- or post-operative instructions as directed by the provider.
  4. Performs basic diagnostic tests, including Auto Refraction, Lensometry, Visual Field Testing, OCTs, and Applanation Tonometry.
  5. Accompanies the provider into the exam room, updates or collects patient history, and inputs data into the practice management system. Explains procedures to patients and answers questions.
  6. Assists with minor surgical procedures and/or injection preparations.
  7. Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment, and reagents. May order supplies and confirm delivery accuracy. Assists with cost control.
  8. Ensures facilities and equipment are in optimal condition. Coordinates maintenance and repairs. Performs minor repairs if qualified.
  9. Answers phones, responds to inquiries, and triages calls to appropriate personnel.
Education
  • High school diploma or GED
Experience

Approximately 1 year of ophthalmic experience. Graduation from a formal training program can substitute for experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Familiarity with ophthalmic terminology.
