Job summary

Discover Vision Centers in the Kansas City area is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. You will assist with patient check-in, perform preliminary testing, and support the clinical staff while learning in a comprehensive technician training program.

You will gain hands-on experience with diagnostic equipment (OCT, visual fields, IOL Master) and develop knowledge of ocular anatomy and common conditions. A patient-first mindset and teamwork are essential for success.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Strong computer and data entry skills are essential.
• One year of medical or ophthalmic office experience is preferred.
• COA or COT certification is preferred but not required for otherwise qualified candidates.
• Excellent communication skills and a patient-first mindset are important.

Responsibilities

• Welcome patients with professionalism, assist with check-in, and provide excellent service throughout their visit.
• Verify and record patient information, medical history, medications, and purpose of visit.
• Perform preliminary testing including visual acuity, pupil assessment, refraction, dilation, intraocular pressure, and extraocular movement testing.
• Conduct diagnostic procedures such as OCT, visual fields, GDX, IOL Master, auto-refractor, and corneal topography.
• Demonstrate knowledge of ocular anatomy, diseases, symptoms, and medications.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring exam rooms and equipment are patient-ready.
• Support the clinical team with administrative tasks and other duties as assigned.
