Job description

Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Ophthalmic Technician (FGP) in Manhattan. In this role, the successful candidate tests and measures eye function to assist a physician in diagnosing and treating eye disorders. This includes testing visual acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception; examining the eye with a slit lamp for corneal, anterior chamber, and posterior chamber abnormalities; applying anesthetic or dilating drops; measuring intraocular pressure; conducting visual field tests; measuring axial length with ultrasound; and performing other tests or measurements requested by the physician.

Job Responsibilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Handles all patient correspondence, including disability forms, patient education, and surgical consent forms.
  • Conducts slit lamp examinations.
  • Completes medical history, lensometry, auto‑refraction, PAM testing, and glare testing.
  • Performs all aspects of visual acuity testing and visual field testing.
Minimum Qualifications

To qualify you must have a high‑school diploma or equivalent. Five (5) or more years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in a retina practice is preferred. A Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) designation from a Joint Commission for Allied Health Personnel (JCAHPO) approved institutional course is preferred or the candidate should be working toward obtaining certification.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferable 5+ years experience in retina practice and a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant credential.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with New York state law on salary transparency. The salary range for this role is $54,013.05 – $63,000.00 annually. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The listed range does not include bonuses or other compensation.
