Job summary

VillageMD is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to support the clinical team by performing specialized diagnostic testing and assisting physicians with patient care in a fast-paced outpatient ophthalmology setting.

Responsibilities include conducting tests, communicating follow-up care, maintaining equipment, and potentially assisting in minor office surgeries, with opportunities to work at satellite offices. Requires a high school diploma and ophthalmic certification preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • JCAHPO Ophthalmic Assistant Certification or COT preferred.
  • Friendly, professional demeanor with excellent bedside manner.
  • Strong computer and typing skills (minimum 45 wpm).
  • Flexibility to work full-time hours, including rotating weekends.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to commute to satellite office locations as needed.
  • Bilingual language skills preferred depending on site location.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the doctor in patient care promptly and professionally.
  • Perform technical workups, patient interviews and special testing.
  • Communicate with patients regarding follow-up care, surgeries, procedures, changes in schedule, symptoms, surgery scheduling, etc.
  • Maintain and clean all equipment being used, and report to supervisor if not in working condition.
  • Return phone calls to patients and pharmacies.
  • Potential to assist in minor office surgery.
  • Independently perform specialized ophthalmic testing.
  • Accurately perform Refractions, Lensometry, Keratometry, Tonometry, Muscle testing, Pupil exams and special testing such as HVF and OCT.
  • Scribes readily when doctor desires.
  • Provide clear communication to patients regarding tests, procedures, and expectations.
