Job summary

University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician for the Colony Park North / Lakeland ophthalmology clinic. You will perform ophthalmic procedures under the ophthalmologist's supervision and conduct patient screening and diagnostic testing.

The role includes patient education, assisting in surgeries, and handling administrative duties such as scheduling and histories.

Qualifications

• Must have graduated from an accredited ophthalmic program, or have high school diploma/GED and two (2) years of related experience.
• Knowledge of ocular anatomy, pharmacology, and diseases of the eye; training in diagnostic and treatment procedures including visual field testing and keratometry.

Responsibilities

• Administers diagnostic tests.
• Takes ocular measurements and tests visual functions such as acuity, fields, tonometry, and keratometry readings.
• Administers topical ophthalmic medications as directed by the ophthalmologist.
• Instructs patients in home care and use of contact lenses and provides patient education.
• Assists in ophthalmic surgery; sterilizes and maintains ophthalmic instruments.
• Performs administrative duties such as scheduling patient appointments, taking histories, answering telephones, and forwarding correspondence.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
