Michigan Medicine is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to support ophthalmology services at the Brighton Center for Specialty Care. You will assist physicians, perform diagnostic testing, and help coordinate clinical workflows to enhance patient experience in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities include assisting in procedures, supporting research activities, and onboarding new staff while maintaining high standards of care and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma is required.
• Successful completion of Michigan Medicine's 12-week training program or some experience as an Ophthalmic Technician is required.
• Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) within one year of employment is required.
• Primary Source Verification is required for this classification.

Required Qualifications*

• Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology is required within one year of employment
• This classification requires Primary Source Verification.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Work Schedule

This is full-time, working Monday through Friday. The hours depend on the clinic operation hours.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
