Qualifications

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must obtain COA within 18 months of start date; CPR certification also required.
  • Basic familiarity with ophthalmic terminology preferred.
  • Willingness to complete required JHMI training and HIPAA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and record patient history accurately.
  • Perform basic elements of the preliminary eye exam (visual acuity, color vision, tonometry, slit lamp basics).
  • Operate ophthalmic equipment for ancillary testing.
  • Assist physician chairside as a scribe.
  • Apply ocular dressings and assist with disabled patients.
  • Assist with pre- and post-operative care.
  • Perform routine instrument maintenance and stock rooms.

Skills

Familiarity with ophthalmic terms
