Tidewater Physicians Multispecialty Group is actively seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to work out of our Ophthalmic office in Newport News. Tidewater Physicians Multispecialty Group (TPMG) is comprised of over 200 physicians and advanced practice clinicians and is the largest physician-owned groups in Tidewater. The schedule is full-time work hours, Monday through Friday.

Position Summary

Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for prepping the patient for the provider to conduct the eye examines.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for screening patients (i.e. get medical history, update medications and allergies, check vision and dilate the pupils.
• Determine if further auxiliary testing is needed.
• Schedule surgery for patients and prepping paperwork required.
• Maintain a list of supplies needed for the office to ensure office is fully stocked.
• Responsible for charge entry.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of coding with modifiers.
• Knowledge of hospitals requirements for surgeries.
• Knowledge of eye medications.
• Skill in communicating clearly with diverse publics.
• Ability to work scheduled hours as defined in the job offer.
• Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
• Ability to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situations.
• Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions and follow written protocols.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
• Six to twelve months related experience/training.
