Spectrum Vision Partners / OCLI Vision is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician – Level 3 to provide advanced clinical support and help deliver patient-centered ophthalmic care at our Lake Success clinic in NY. The role includes training and mentoring staff, performing complex workups, and ensuring quality and safety across offices.

Ideal candidates have COA certification within a year, experience with EMR/EHR (NextGen preferred), and the ability to travel between offices as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience with EMR/EHR applications preferred; NextGen is preferred but not required.
• Must obtain COA certification within one year of employment.
• Ability to travel between multiple offices as needed.
• Advanced clinical judgment and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Complete patient intake and workups; document histories and prepare patients for testing.
• Perform ophthalmic testing and measurements; operate diagnostic equipment.
• Support complex cases and coordinate with providers and clinical team.
• Train, mentor, and guide other ophthalmic technicians; promote teamwork.
• Contribute to quality improvement and maintain safety standards.

Your Next Career Opportunity - Spectrum Vision Partners / OCLI Vision is seeking an experienced Ophthalmic Technician – Level 3 to provide advanced clinical support and help deliver exceptional, patient-centered ophthalmic care.

Level 3 technicians perform advanced patient workups and diagnostic testing, support multiple ophthalmic subspecialties, assist with complex cases, and serve as a clinical resource for other technicians. This role also contributes to quality improvement, team development, and a positive office culture while maintaining quality, safety, and organizational standards.

What You'll Do

• Advanced Patient Workups: Complete patient intake and workups, document relevant histories, prepare patients for testing, and support accurate clinical records.
• Diagnostic Testing & Procedures: Perform ophthalmic testing and measurements, operate and maintain diagnostic equipment, assist with office procedures and refraction when applicable, and process specimens as assigned.
• Prior Authorizations & Clinical Coordination: Process, review, and track prior authorization requests; communicate patient needs and urgent concerns; and support smooth patient flow.
• Complex Patient Support: Assist with complicated cases, recognize complex patient needs, handle escalated patient interactions, and communicate appropriately with providers and the clinical team.
• Training & Mentoring: Train, mentor, and guide Ophthalmic Testers and Ophthalmic Technicians; share clinical knowledge and support effective teamwork.
• Quality & Office Culture: Participate in quality improvement initiatives, promote consistent clinical practices, and support office culture, engagement, safety, and patient-centered care.

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience with EMR/EHR applications preferred; NextGen is preferred but not required.
• Previous customer service and/or medical experience preferred, but not required .
• Must have successfully achieved COA certification or have the ability to obtain it within one year of employment.
• Advanced clinical judgment, strong communication, and ability to support multiple ophthalmic subspecialties.
• Ability to train and mentor team members and assist with more complicated cases.
• Ability to travel between multiple offices, as needed.
• Completion of the Ophthalmic Technician Level 3 competency checklist within 90 days of hire is required.
