Job summary

SharpeVision Ophthalmic Technicians provide patient-focused care in a fast-paced setting, supporting tests, measurements, and clerical duties to enhance outcomes. The role emphasizes accuracy, teamwork, and compassionate patient interactions in a modern vision-care clinic.

The position requires an eye for detail, basic medical knowledge, and the ability to work with ophthalmic equipment. Travel to other locations may be required, with competitive pay and strong benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; higher education preferred.
• At least one year of ophthalmic/medical technician experience preferred.
• Fluency in English with strong written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Conduct tests to measure intraocular pressure.
• Measure visual acuity.
• Take patient medical histories.
• Administer topical ophthalmic medications.
• Conduct visual field tests.
• Operate and maintain ophthalmic instruments and facilities.
• Assist physicians in surgical procedures.
• Communicate with patients regarding scheduling and post-operative status.
• Assist with insurance coverage discussions for visits and procedures.
• Support payment collection as part of visits.

Reports To: Center Director

Location: Lakeway, TX

Schedule: Full-Time, M-F, with some Saturday morning coverage as needed. Hours dependent upon location needs.

Travel: Some travel is required to assist with coverage in other locations

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Conduct tests to measure intraocular pressure.
• Measure visual acuity.
• Take patient medical histories.
• Administer topical ophthalmic medications.
• Conduct visual field tests.
• Operate, clean and maintain ophthalmic/surgical instruments, equipment and facilities.
• Take measurements of the eye.
• Measure lens power.
• Assist physicians in performing surgical procedures.
• Conduct ocular motility tests.
• Communicate telephonically with patients regarding scheduling or to inquire about post-operative status or recovery.
• Assist with surgical counseling overflow.
• Manage inventory process and order supplies.
• Work with insurances to determine patient coverage relating to appointment visit types and surgical procedures.
• Assisting with payment collections as part of clinical and surgical visits.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred. At least one year of experience as an ophthalmic, optometric, or medical technician highly preferred.

Language Ability:

Fluency of the English language. Excellent oral and written comprehension and expression. Speech clarity and recognition. Active learning and listening. Ability to respond to common inquiries and provide information to patients and colleagues. Good interpersonal skills.

Math Ability:

Ability to use mathematical methods or formulas for related medical and scientific measurements and calculations. Ability to calculate percentages. Ability to compile, tabulate, or verify information or data.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to collect data and establish facts. Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form. Ability to use logic. Ability to identify information by categorizing and recognizing differences or similarities.

Computer Skills:

Microsoft Office Suite, Email, Calendar and Scheduling Software, Medical Software, Internet, Data Entry

Certificates and Licenses:

We prefer, but don’t require, that you are a COA, COT or COMT. But if we think you’re the perfect fit, we’ll hire you and get you certified.
