Job Location: Duke Eye Center at Erwin Rd - 2351 Erwin Rd, Durham, NC

Job Summary: Under supervision, assist an Eye Center physician and support staff in performing diagnostic tests for patient eye evaluations.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform preliminary screening exams such as visual acuity, patient history, tonometry, lensometry, motility, pupil assessment, visual fields, color vision tests, and examine the eye using a slit lamp. Assist with dilation, anesthetic drops, and contact lens training.
• Manage patient flow, gather medical and personal data, coordinate tests, photography, outpatient studies, and assist with admissions and surgeries as directed by the physician.
• Explain diagnostic procedures and treatments to patients and families to alleviate concerns.
• Maintain exam and procedure rooms, stock supplies, and ensure a clean environment.
• Assist with clerical tasks including scheduling, call screening, and filing results and documents.
• Calibrate and maintain ophthalmic instruments such as bio-microscopes, lensometers, keratometers, tangent screens, slit lamps, and tonometers.
• Prepare instruments for ophthalmic surgeries, assist with minor procedures, laser treatments, and operating room surgeries as needed.

Job Eligibility Requirements:

• Completion of Ophthalmic Technician training and certification as a certified Ophthalmic Technician by JCAHPO.
