Job summary

Eskenazi Health is seeking a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician to image the eye for diagnostic, educational and research purposes. You will manage the full patient work-up under residents and staff physicians, including accurate histories and coordinating imaging tests.

The role requires experience with ophthalmic imaging modalities, basic refraction, biomicroscopy, and the ability to dilate eyes and follow physician orders.

Qualifications

  • High school education or GED is required.
  • 1 year of prior hospital or patient-care experience preferred.
  • Certification for Ophthalmic Assistant by the AAO is preferred but must be obtained within two years.

Responsibilities

  • Imaging the eye for diagnostic and research purposes as part of the patient work-up.
  • Perform imaging eye modalities including Humphrey Visual Fields, Goldman Visual Fields, OCT, Fundus photography, and other tests.
  • Perform manual and auto refraction, basic biomicroscopy, and dilate patients' eyes per physician orders.
  • Schedule surgeries when required and assist with clinical operations and equipment maintenance.
  • Assist in surgical or research studies as needed.
