Job summary

Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary is seeking a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant to support outpatient eye care and procedural settings. You will work with clinicians to perform tests, assist with procedures, and help ensure a smooth patient experience.

The role requires COA certification, a high school diploma or equivalent, and ICA-level training completion, with at least six months in an ophthalmology clinic. This is an onsite position with daily patient contact.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No
• Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification through JCAHPO is required.
• At least 6 months of experience in a supervised ophthalmology clinic.
• Successful completion of the ICA Assistant-level training program.

Responsibilities

• Performs vision testing, imaging, and assessments to prepare patients for eye examinations.
• Identifies and administers diagnostic eye drops during exams.
• Prepares for and assists with minor ophthalmic procedures (lasers, injections, cryotherapy).
• Measures and documents vital signs as needed for procedures.
• Ensures exam rooms and ophthalmic supplies are stocked.
• Supports patient call triage and in-basket management, as assigned.
