Job summary

Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston seeks a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant to perform diagnostic testing and prepare patients for examinations in a busy ophthalmology clinic.

Under licensed supervision, you will assist with office-based procedures, manage patient flow, and help maintain equipment and patient safety. The role requires COA certification, 6 months of supervised ophthalmology experience or ICA training, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of ophthalmic terminology, ocular anatomy, physiology, common diseases and procedures.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with compassionate, patient-centered care.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform ophthalmic tests, measurements, imaging, and assessments to prepare patients for examination.
• Administer diagnostic eye drops per protocols.
• Assist with office-based procedures (lasers, injections, cryotherapy, oculoplastic) under ophthalmologist supervision.
• Maintain exam rooms, stock supplies, and ensure clean, equipped clinical areas.
• Support clinic operations with triage, in-basket management, and cross-location coverage.
