Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks an Ophthalmic Assistant in Evanston for a full-time, dayshift position to support physicians with tests and patient care.

The role performs refractions, tonometry, visual fields, topography, OCT, IOL Master / Ascans, and assists in minor procedures while acting as a liaison between patients and clinicians. A High School diploma, BLS, COA certification, and 0–2 years of experience are required.

Qualifications

• Must have High School diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification required or doctor of medicine exempted.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients and documents histories.
• Performs refractions with retinoscopy, Keratometry, Tonometry, Visual Fields, Amslers, Muscle Testing, Pupil Exams, Topography, OCT, IOL Master / Ascans, Fundus Photos.
• Assists physician with patient care and minor surgery; scribes.
• Communicates with patients regarding follow-up care and scheduling; returns calls.
• Maintains and cleans equipment and reports deficiencies.
