Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to support physicians across subspecialties. You will perform tests (refractions, tonometry, OCT, topography), document histories, and assist with patient care and minor procedures.

The role requires a COA certification or MD exemption, BLS, and 0–2 years of experience. You will liaise with patients and maintain equipment while upholding NM policies.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• COA certification through JCAHPO (applicants with MD exempt from COA).
• 0–2 years of relevant experience.
• Two years related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients and documents histories.
• Performs tests such as refractions, keratometry, tonometry, visual fields, OCT, topography, and other procedures.
• Assists physicians with patient care and minor surgery.
• Communicates follow-up care, schedules, and patient questions.
• Maintains and cleans equipment; reports issues.
