Job summary

SSM Health is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to support our ophthalmology team in providing high-quality eye care. The role involves preparing patients, performing vision tests, and assisting with imaging and minor procedures in a busy clinic.

You will document patient histories in the EMR, educate patients on eye health, and maintain instruments. Day shift, 40 hours per week, with competitive benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 1 year health care experience required.
• COA certification strongly preferred or willingness to obtain within 18 months of hire.
• Experience in ophthalmology/optometry is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist ophthalmologists/optometrists with patient care and diagnostic testing.
• Prepare patients for eye examinations and procedures.
• Perform preliminary vision tests (visual acuity, tonometry, refraction).
• Assist with imaging (OCT, fundus photography, visual field testing).
• Document patient history and EMR data; educate patients on eye health and post-procedure care.
• Maintain and clean ophthalmic instruments; assist during minor procedures/surgeries.
