Job summary

Dayton Children's is seeking an ophthalmic assistant at the Main Campus in Dayton, OH. This entry‑level role works under an optometrist or ophthalmologist to prepare patients for exams, perform standard tests, take measurements, and assist with eye care workflows.

Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, 40 hours weekly. Requirements include a HS diploma or GED (associates preferred) and 2–3 years of ophthalmic assistant experience (4+ preferred).

Qualifications

• Basic patient care and computer knowledge required; direct patient care preferred.
• Prepare patient for exam, perform standard tests and take measurements. Disinfect equipment as needed.

Job Details

An ophthalmic assistant is an entry-level ophthalmic professional who works under the supervision of an optometrist or ophthalmologist (eye doctor) to provide patient care. Since an ophthalmic assistant generally sees patients before the ophthalmologist does, they must prepare the patient for the exam, performing standard tests and taking measurements. Assistant may also prepare and disinfect the equipment that the ophthalmologist uses.
