Job summary

Dayton Children's is seeking a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) for the Ophthalmology department. This entry-level role supports the eye care team by preparing patients for exams, performing standard tests, taking measurements, and assisting the ophthalmologist during visits.

Shift is full time, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with 40 hours per week. A High School Diploma and COA certification plus at least one year of healthcare experience are required, with pediatric experience

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • COA certification issued by the International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology.
  • Minimum 1 year of healthcare experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the ophthalmologist by preparing patients for exams.
  • Perform standard ophthalmic tests and measurements.
  • Disinfect and prepare equipment between patients.

Job Details: A certified ophthalmic assistant (COA) is an entry-level ophthalmic professional who works under the supervision of an optometrist or ophthalmologist (eye doctor) to provide patient care. Since an ophthalmic assistant generally sees patients before the ophthalmologist does, they must prepare the patient for the exam, performing standard tests and taking measurements. Assistant may also prepare and disinfect the equipment that the ophthalmologist uses.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) - International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology
  • 1+ years of healthcare experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1+ years of pediatric healthcare experience
