Job summary

Henry Ford Health is seeking an Eye Care Assistant to support the ophthalmology team. You will perform a mix of administrative and clinical duties, including diagnostic testing, patient assessments, and surgical instrument support under supervision of a licensed ophthalmologist.

You will conduct visual acuity exams, tonometry, contact lens services, and patient education while maintaining high standards of patient care and safety in a busy clinical setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Initiative and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Visual/hearing/verbal requirements to perform tests and procedures.
• Ability to communicate information clearly during patient histories and tests.
• Manual dexterity to operate equipment and perform precise tasks.
• Attention to detail due to the exacting nature of ophthalmic duties.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients and take comprehensive medical and ocular histories.
• Conduct visual acuity testing with and without correction and refractometry.
• Perform advanced diagnostic testing (lensometry, visual fields, tonometry, etc.).
• Measure intraocular pressure using non-contact, digital, and Goldmann tonometers.
• Prepare and assist with laser procedures and instrument management.
• Provide contact lens services, fittings, and education to patients.
• Educate patients on procedures, post-care, and safety.
• Maintain exam room equipment and supply inventory.
