Job summary

Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary is seeking a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) to support outpatient eye care alongside clinicians. You will perform testing, imaging, and administrative tasks to ensure a smooth patient experience in a fast-paced clinic.

The position requires COA certification, a high school diploma, and at least 6 months of ophthalmology clinic experience or ICA training completion. Onsite at 110 Hartwell Ave, Lexington, MA with a 40-hour work week.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of ocular terminology, eye anatomy, and common ocular diseases.
  • Experience with ophthalmic procedures and pharmacology is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and patient service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform vision tests, imaging, and assessments for eye exams.
  • Administer diagnostic eye drops as part of examinations.
  • Assist with minor ophthalmic procedures and injections.
  • Measure and document vital signs for procedures.
  • Maintain exam rooms and ophthalmic equipment per guidelines.
  • Handle and transport specimens, instruments, and meds safely.
  • Provide patient call triage and in-basket support as needed.
  • Support other ophthalmology services and locations when required.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, infection control, and regulations.
