Job summary

Fairview Health Services seeks a compassionate ophthalmic assistant to join the Eye Ophthalmology Clinic team at M Health Fairview Riverside Park Plaza Building. Support pediatric optometrists and eye care professionals in patient intake, testing, education, and clinic operations in a fast-paced, collaborative environment dedicated to children's eye health.

Work a 0.8 FTE schedule (64 hours per pay period), Monday–Thursday 8:00 a.m.

Qualifications

• 1 year clinical experience in ophthalmology.
• Patient scheduling and check-in experience.
• Certified Ophthalmic Assistant.
• Basic Life Support (American Heart Association or Red Cross).

Responsibilities

• Provide ophthalmic testing, including history taking, visual acuity testing, intraocular pressure, refraction, eye drops, and patient education.
• Complete pre-visit planning of daily schedule and tests.
• Ensure all testing is performed prior to rooming.
• Document patient education in the EMR.
• Maintain a clean, stocked, and efficient clinic environment.
• Assist physicians with minor procedures and eye drop administration.

Job Overview

Fairview is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented certified ophthalmic assistant to join the Eye Ophthalmology Clinic team at M Health Fairview Riverside Park Plaza Building. In this role, you will support pediatric optometrists and other eye care professionals in providing exceptional care to children and their families. You will assist with patient intake, vision testing, diagnostic procedures, patient education, and clinic operations in a fast-paced, collaborative environment dedicated to improving children's eye health.

Enjoy a consistent work schedule with this 0.8 FTE, benefits-eligible position (64 hours per pay period). Scheduled hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p. This role offers a predictable schedule with no weekends, holidays, or on-call responsibilities, allowing for a healthy work-life balance while making a meaningful impact on the lives of pediatric patients.

Assists physicians and clinical/clerical staff in the efficient daily clinic flow of patients in the clinic. Assists ophthalmologists and optometrists in the preparation and examination of patients with ophthalmic diseases of the eye. Facilitates efficient patient flow in the clinic including scheduling appointments and tests, enters EMR patient information, administers eye drops, and assists with minor procedures. Listens effectively in order to follow instructions from multiple sources. Spends 95% of assigned clinic time in the examination/treatment area of the clinic. The remaining 5% of assigned time is considered "other duties as assigned".

Responsibilities

• Provide Appropriate and Accurate Ophthalmic Testing, including: Medical History Taking; Visual Acuity Testing; Measuring Intraocular Pressure; Glasses Neutralization – Reading Glasses Rx; Automated Refraction; Administering of Eye Drops; Patient Education; Humphrey Visual Field Testing; Contact Lens – Basic Fit & I & R.
• Completes pre-visit planning of daily schedule, testing and patient’s chief complaint
• Ensures all patient testing is performed prior to patients being roomed.
• Provides Patient Education instruction to patients per physician order regarding medications, tests and procedures. Documents education given in the EMR.
• Keeps environment clean, stocked, organized, and efficient
• Assists physicians/providers with minor patient procedures
• Administers eye drops and performs inter-ocular pressure checks
• Assists with minor procedures, i.e. intraocular injections, biopsies, botox etc.

Required Qualifications

• 1 year clinical experience in ophthalmology.
• Patient scheduling and check-in experience.
• Certified Ophthalmic Assistant
• Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)
