Job summary

Mueller Water Products, Inc. is offering an OPEX Intern position in its Operational Excellence internship program.

The role is a part-time paid internship at $20 per hour, with 10–15 hours per week during the semester. You will study assembly line processes, document workflows, revise manufacturing documents, analyze data, and collaborate with process engineers to improve throughput and standardize operations.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Must be on track to graduate within the next 1–2 years.
  • Must be available to work from the facility 10–15 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Study assembly line processes to identify improvements in throughput and balancing.
  • Document processes using flow mapping, standard work, and visual management.
  • Revise documentation used in manufacturing and assist shop floor leaders daily.
  • Analyze data to facilitate improvements.
  • Team with other process engineers to develop process/equipment for product parts.

OPEX Intern

Mueller Water Products is the largest manufacturer of fire hydrants, butterfly valves and iron gate valves in the U.S. and Canada and offers the broadest product line of valves for residential water and gas systems. We are currently seeking candidates for its Operational Excellence Internship Program. During an internship assignment, interns will have an opportunity to present their projects and significant accomplishments to the leadership at the facility to highlight their work and abilities. The ideal Mueller Engineer Intern will work part time during the semester and could continue part time for additional semesters. All Engineering internships are paid positions at $20 per hour.

Responsibilities
  • Studying assembly line processes and identifying areas for improved throughput, work line balancing, and standardizing processes.
  • Documenting processes using process flow mapping, standard work, and visual management techniques.
  • Revising documentation used in manufacturing processes and assist shop floor team leaders on a daily basis.
  • Analyzing data to facilitate improvements.
  • Team with other process engineers to identify and develop the process and equipment needed to produce specific products, parts, and components.
Basic Qualifications
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Must be on track to graduate with a degree in the next 1 to 2 years.
  • Must be available to work from the facility 10-15 hours per week.
Additional Qualifications
  • Strong computer skills, with an emphasis on MS Office, is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Lean or Toyota Production Systems training preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and take direction from others.
  • Coursework with CAD/Drafting and/or programming is a plus.
  • Candidate must be able to lift 25 lbs.
