Job summary

Veit & Company, Inc. is seeking a CDL A Driver to haul construction materials to and from job sites around Duluth. The role may include manual labor as needed and requires strict safety and DOT compliance.

You will load/unload, inspect equipment, follow supervisor guidance, maintain a clean site, and coordinate with dispatch. OSHA/ELD experience and reliable attendance are essential. Union affiliation and benefits are available.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, six to twelve months of construction experience or equivalent.
  • Current and valid CDL Class A license.
  • Knowledge of FMCSA and DOT rules and regulations (Hours of Service).
  • Ability to use Electronic Logging Device (ELD).
  • Ability to read maps, follow directions, and navigate with GPS.
  • Ability to follow OSHA safety protocols and maintain high safety standards.
  • Strong verbal and written communication with all levels of staff.
  • Reliable attendance as required by management.

Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY

The Driver is responsible for hauling materials to and from job sites throughout the surrounding area. May also perform manual labor as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Hauls various construction materials to and from jobsite locations.
  • Loads and unloads trucks; hauls and hoists materials.
  • Performs a variety of tasks involving manual labor at construction project sites.
  • Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Bring any concerns to theattention of the project Foreman, Superintendent, General Superintendent, Safety Director, or Management.
  • Maintains a clean job site by picking up all materials, tools/small equipment, and secures the job site each day in order to eliminate potential hazards.
  • Other projects or duties as assigned by management.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of known actions, written or verbal, which may affect the ability to successfully perform assignments or adversely affect Company operations.
  • Follow daily procedures and protocols as outlined in job orientations and training.
  • Performs routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to the Senior Logistics Manager.
  • Other projects or duties as assigned by management.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, six to twelve months of construction experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current and valid CDL Class A license.
  • Working knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations, especially Hours of Service
  • Ability to use Electronic Logging Device (ELD).
  • Ability to read maps, follow directions, and navigate with GPS.
  • Ability to understand and comply with all Company and Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) safety protocols. Ability to maintain highest safety standards.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, when working with all levels of management, employees, external vendors, and other business partners. Ability to understand, follow, and convey written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to reliably meet attendance schedules as required by management and/or project needs.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • OSHA-10 training preferred.
OTHER:
  • This is a safety-sensitive role. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Must have a current medical card for CDL/Class A License.
  • Must be able to work 8 to 12-hour workdays, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends.
  • Member of the Teamsters union or the ability to join.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily, with or without reasonable accommodation, and meet DOT medical qualifications. The physical demands include the ability to handle physically demanding work involving sustained physical exertion and exposure to adverse and variable weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, snow, dust, and noise typical of construction sites.

The employee must sit for long periods and repeatedly enter and exit the vehicle. The role also requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, stretching, and reaching to perform inspections, secure loads, operate controls, and complete tasks. The employee must lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally, including handling equipment, tools, or materials. Use hands and arms for steering, shifting, braking, and operating vehicle and trailer controls is required.

The position requires operating and interacting with electronic systems, including using an Electronic Logging Device (ELD) to accurately record hours of service, duty status changes, and other DOT-required information. The employee must be able to view, enter, and verify electronic data on handheld or in-cab devices.

The position also requires the ability to see, hear, and speak clearly to safely operate equipment, respond to traffic and jobsite conditions, communicate with dispatch and coworkers, and comply with DOT safety requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment involves exposure to machinery, loud noises, and various weather and terrain conditions. Employees often work alone or with others.
