Job description

Job Summary

The Operator’s primary responsibility is to carry out daily operational processes, including loading and unloading product, storing product, and maintaining the grounds, buildings, and equipment used during operations.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Perform product loading and unloading functions in accordance with established operating procedures.
  • Maintain operating equipment, buildings, and grounds by inspecting equipment, performing mechanical maintenance, and addressing unsafe conditions.
  • Perform general cleaning of all terminal areas and manage the ordering of supplies.
  • Understand and apply principles of refrigeration systems, testing and recording sample results, and monitoring gauge readings.
  • Maintain and update appropriate manuals and records/paperwork accurately.
  • Comply with all training, environmental, health and safety programs of the Company.
  • Assist with training and development of other operators as appropriate.
  • Coordinate with Emergency Response Personnel for environmental, health and safety situations.
  • Perform hazardous material response and remediation duties during a spill.
  • Progress through and maintain skills acquired in the Operator Progression Program.
  • Perform other duties requested by facility management necessary for proper operation of the facility.
  • Assist with maintenance and capital projects implementations.
  • Assume facility management responsibilities in the absence of the facility manager.
  • Provide assistance at other Company locations or other facilities as directed by Company management.
Qualifications
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Equivalent of 2 years college, military/technical training, or related work experience.
  • Ability to understand and follow operating procedures.
  • Refrigeration knowledge commensurate with position level.
  • Good communication skills.
  • HAZMAT certification (post‑employment requirement).
  • Ability and initiative to exercise independent or team‑oriented action.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and information retrieval.
  • Read, write, communicate, and comprehend the English language.
Shift Schedule

Work requires flexible shifts; 12‑hour rotating shifts (6am‑6pm or 6pm‑6am). Additional work may be required on nights, holidays, and weekends with little or no advance notice.

Working Conditions
  • Varied environmental conditions (extreme cold/heat, humidity, wind, rain, snow, ice).
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals and emergency response duties.
  • Operates in a continuous operating environment; may be on‑call 24 hours during pre‑designated periods.
  • Work often on uneven or slippery surfaces and may involve climbing heights up to 80‑100ft.
  • Use of computer terminals to monitor facility processes during product loading.
Emergency Response Personnel Requirements
  • Operators are required to function as emergency responders for anhydrous ammonia spills.
  • Two primary roles: Hazardous Material Technician and Incident Commander.
  • Hazardous Material Technician duties include wearing Level A protective suits, operating SCBA, deploying fire hose, fixing leaks, and providing first aid.
  • Incident Commander duties involve guiding and directing response efforts from an upwind location, typically in LevelD gear.
