Job summary

NextDecade is seeking an OSBL Field Operator to ensure safe operation of shipping, loading, and utility systems at the RGLNG facility. This field-based role centers on LNG ship loading, marine operations, utility systems, and storage tank support, with collaboration across Maintenance, Engineering, HSSE, and vendors.

The candidate must reside within 50 miles of Brownsville, TX; relocation assistance is available for eligible applicants. Strong leadership and communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in OSBL field operations, LNG, petrochemical, or gas plant environments.
  • Experience in LNG ship loading, marine terminal operations and utility systems.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, PFDs, control narratives, Cause & Effect Matrices, and equipment schematics.

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

The OSBL Field Operator plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective operation of shipping, loading, and utility systems at the RGLNG facility. This position is field based, with a strong focus on LNG ship loading, marine operations, utility systems, and storage tank support. The OSBL Field Operator is responsible for executing operational tasks, performing equipment checks and isolations, coordinating with marine loading personnel, and supporting maintenance activities. The role requires a thorough understanding of utility systems (water, air, nitrogen, steam, fuel gas, etc.) and marine terminal operations. The OSBL Field Operator works closely with Maintenance, Engineering, HSSE, contractors, and third‑party vendors. This role demands strong leadership, communication, and HSSE skills, as well as a high level of situational awareness in a live marine terminal and utility operating environment. The successful candidate must reside within a 50‑mile radius of Brownsville, TX.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Understand and adhere to RGLNG HSSE standards, Life Saving Rules, and Process Safety Fundamentals.
  • Monitor and operate OSBL systems including marine loading arms, berth support systems, flare systems, and utility units (e.g., steam, nitrogen, compressed air, water treatment).
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of ship loading operations in compliance with Ship/Shore interface protocols.
  • Support safe execution of pre‑loading, loading, and post‑loading activities including line‑up, purging, and cooldown.
  • Respond to alarms and operational deviations in shipping and utility areas; elevate and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Perform routine field checks and equipment adjustments for OSBL systems, including pump skids, storage tanks, heat exchangers, and electrical distribution assets.
  • Assist in maintenance planning by preparing isolations, supporting permits, and validating readiness for work.
  • Lead or support OSBL‑related activities during Turnarounds, outages, and campaign maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed shift logs specific to SLU operations and ensure smooth shift handovers.
  • Follow troubleshooting procedures and ensure the safety of all utility and marine‑related activities.
  • Maintain professional behavior, site housekeeping, and consumable levels for assigned areas.
  • Participate in emergency drills and serve as part of the Emergency Response Team for marine and utility scenarios.
  • Ensure OSBL operating procedures and standards are followed and propose improvements where applicable.
  • Support commissioning, ramp‑up, and performance optimization post start‑up.
  • Participate as a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) to support on‑site emergencies.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years of experience in OSBL field operations, LNG, petrochemical, or gas plant environments.
  • Experience in LNG ship loading, marine terminal operations and utility systems.
  • Strong understanding of gas and liquid utility systems (steam, air, nitrogen, water, etc.) and shipping infrastructure.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, PFDs, control narratives, Cause & Effect Matrices, and equipment schematics.
  • Demonstrated commitment to HSSE and process safety.
  • Must reside within a 50‑mile radius of Brownsville, TX.
  • Relocation assistance provided for eligible candidates.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience with LNG or cryogenic terminal ship loading and marine operations.
  • LNG or gas processing commissioning and start‑up experience.
  • 3+ years of field experience in OSBL roles within LNG or petrochemical facilities.
  • Familiarity with APCI liquefaction processes and terminal operation protocols.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted and push/pull with up to 50 pounds of force.
  • Required to grip objects with up to 50 pounds of force.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and balancing, including climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Regular reaching, bending, stooping, handling, and spinal twisting.
  • Use of hands, arms, and legs to lift, push, and pull machinery and mechanical components.
Job Site Work Environment
  • Must be able to wear all necessary PPE equipment to perform job functions.
  • Operates in a complex construction environment.
  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Not necessarily protected from weather and temperature changes.
  • Possible exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts and electrical circuits.
  • Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds of a pitch level sufficient to cause marked distraction.
  • Routinely uses standard office and field communications equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers w/scanner and fax, and radios.
