Job Title: Operator - Night Every Other Weekend at Mercy Medical Center, Baltimore, MD

Summary

The PBX Operator creates an exceptional first impression of Mercy Medical Center in all interactions. Responsibilities include answering calls within 3 rings, transferring calls, taking and relaying messages for physicians, monitoring alarms, processing emergency codes, providing overhead paging services, and assisting with pager provisioning and replacement. The role requires effective use of department hardware and software.

Responsibilities

  • Answer internal and external calls promptly and professionally.
  • Transfer calls to appropriate destinations.
  • Take and relay messages for physicians accurately, including digital and alpha paging.
  • Monitor alarms and process life safety codes and emergency plans.
  • Provide overhead paging services as needed.
  • Assist with provisioning and replacement of pagers.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in department hardware and software systems.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Preferably two years of switchboard experience.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and familiarity with Meditech and Epic (if applicable).
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly.
  • Typing speed of 35-40 WPM.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication and tactful interaction with staff, visitors, and patients.
