Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently operate various fabrication equipment and machinery, including cutting, bending, and welding equipment.
• Read and interpret work orders, drawings, blueprints, sketches, and other production documentation to determine production requirements.
• Follow established work instructions, procedures, and specifications to accurately complete tasks.
• Inspect finished products, components, and materials to verify conformance with quality standards and specifications.
• Identify and report quality issues, defects, equipment concerns, or other production-related issues to the supervisor or team leader.
• Perform general labor and material-handling tasks, including cleaning work areas and assisting with setup/changeover/breakdown.
• Safely handle and position materials, parts, and components as required for operations.
• Follow all safety policies, PPE requirements, and communicate production concerns.

Position Summary (Major Areas of Contribution)

The Machine Operator performs a variety of manufacturing and general labor tasks across departments within a sheet metal fabrication facility. The Machine Operator may be assigned to different departments based on production needs and is responsible for safely and efficiently operating various machinery and equipment while meeting established quality, productivity, and safety standards.

Essential Functions / Job Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently operate various fabrication equipment and machinery, including cutting, bending, and welding equipment.
• Read and interpret work orders, drawings, blueprints, sketches, and other production documentation to determine production requirements.
• Follow established work instructions, procedures, and specifications to accurately complete assigned tasks.
• Inspect finished products, components, and materials to verify conformance with established quality standards and specifications.
• Identify and report quality issues, defects, equipment concerns, or other production-related issues to the appropriate supervisor or team leader.
• Perform general labor and material-handling tasks, including cleaning work areas, removing debris, and assisting with equipment setup, changeover, and breakdown.
• Safely handle and position materials, parts, and components as required for assigned operations.
• Use appropriate tools and equipment to perform assigned duties safely and effectively.
• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, work instructions, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
• Communicate effectively with coworkers, team members, supervisors, and other personnel regarding production, quality, safety, and equipment-related concerns.
• Meet established production, quality, attendance, and performance expectations.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Participate in Company continuous improvement initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Skills

Education / Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Prior experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
• Previous sheet metal fabrication experience is a plus.
• Experience operating manufacturing or fabrication equipment preferred.

Requirements

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for extended periods throughout assigned work areas.
• The employee may be required to sit, use hands and fingers to handle or manipulate tools, materials, parts, and controls, and reach with hands and arms.
• The employee may be required to bend, crouch, crawl, stoop, kneel, climb stairs, and perform other physical movements as necessary to safely perform assigned duties.
• The employee must be able to lift and move metal parts, materials, and other objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
• The employee must be able to safely operate and work around manufacturing machinery and equipment.
• The employee must have sufficient close and peripheral vision to safely perform assigned duties and inspect parts and materials.
• The employee must be able to work according to an established schedule and meet attendance and productivity expectations.
• The employee must be able to comply with all applicable safety requirements, including the proper use of required PPE.
