Job summary

City of Rome, Georgia is seeking an entry-level Water Reclamation Facilities Operator to start training and develop the skills required to process wastewater at the plant. Training is provided and you will work with pumps, valves, gauges, basic tools, and common safety procedures while learning the wastewater treatment process.

Weekend, holiday, and shift work are required, and you must obtain a State of Georgia Class III Wastewater Operator license within 12 months.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; biology or chemistry classes helpful.
• Must obtain GA Class III Wastewater Operator license within 12 months of employment.
• Must be able to work weekends, holidays and assigned shifts (day, night, or fill-in).
• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license within the state of residency.
• Must obtain NIMS 100 and 700 within three (3) months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Accept training and develop the skills necessary for wastewater processing at the plant.
• Operate and monitor wastewater treatment equipment following safety guidelines.
• Read gauges (e.g., D.O., sludge, tank levels) and perform basic maintenance.
• Communicate with coworkers, supervisors, vendors, and the public as required.

This position is responsible for accepting and understanding the training, and development of the skills necessary for the processing of wastewater through a sewage treatment plant. This is an entry level position for Water Reclamation Facilities Operator (WRF).

Training provided.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of the wastewater treatment process.
• Knowledge of the physical constituents of the WRF (pumps, valves, etc.) and the use and maintenance of these components.
• Knowledge of mathematics associated with wastewater.
• Knowledge of state, local, and WRF guidelines and procedures relating to wastewater treatment and disposal.
• Knowledge of applicable safety procedures.
• Skill in reading various gauges (e.g., D. O., sludge, and Tank Levels, etc.).
• Skill in chemical handling and knowledge of chemical safety.
• Skill in the use of basic tools (e.g. screwdrivers, etc.).
• Skill in basic computer use and its applicable software.
• Ability to communicate and interact with coworkers, supervisor, vendors, and the general public sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or GED. Biology or chemistry classes helpful.
• Must be able to obtain a State of Georgia Class III Wastewater Operator license within 12 months of employment.
• Must be able to work weekends, holidays and assigned shifts (day, night, or fill-in).
• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license within the state of residency.
• Must obtain National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) 100 and 700 within three (3) months of employment.
