Job summary

Stansell Electric Company, Inc. seeks an Operator 1 to join our Tennessee team. The role supports installation, alteration, and repair of electrical systems on diverse projects.

The candidate will operate basic equipment, assist with material handling, and maintain site safety under supervision. Qualifications

  • Must wear tool belt at all times.
  • Must perform a full day's tasks involving bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead, and repetitive use of arms and hands.
  • Dig trenches and excavations with hand tools or power equipment.
  • Operate two-handed tools such as cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, and jackhammers.
  • Transition from parking areas into construction zones using OSHA-approved access.
  • Wear all appropriate PPE at all times as required by tasks.
  • Operate company vehicles with manual or automatic transmission.
  • Work a 40 hour week with overtime and off-hour shifts as required.
  • Good hearing and vision, either natural or corrected.
  • Identify wiring colors for installations.
  • Apply Injury Free expectations to equipment carried.
  • Select appropriate equipment for tasks and assess site conditions.
  • Demonstrate lifting and rigging requirements for entry level equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Secures, relocates and organizes materials and tools.
  • Keeps work area clean by disposing of scrap and excess materials.
  • Maintains organization of equipment and tools.
  • Assists in pulling wire, lifting, shoveling, raking, hoisting and positioning materials.
  • Operates basic hand tools under supervision of a foreman or senior operator.
  • Digs trenches using hand tools and equipment.
  • Mounts strapping and buries conduit as needed.
  • Assists senior personnel with less complex electrical installations and terminations.
  • Performs other project duties as instructed by supervision.
  • Meets attendance standards and complies with absence procedures.
  • DOES NOT WORK ON ENERGIZED CIRCUITS OR EQUIPMENT.
  • Keeps equipment maintained daily.
  • Performs tasks in a timely manner.
  • Follows jobsite directions and safety guidelines.
  • Reads maps and instructional manuals.

About the role

  • The Operator 1 works out of Stansell Electric’s Nashville office, assisting in all aspects of in the installation, alteration, addition, and/or repair of electrical systems, conductors, and associated materials and equipment on any type project. The Operator I must be is an equipment apprentice who is enrolled in qualified (ABC or factory) classes and has between Zero and 2,000 hours of actual on‑job experience commensurate to the satisfactory completion of position’s primary duties and responsibilities.Advancement opportunities are available by advancing to more senior positions or through transfer to skilled trades.
  • Able to operate a backhoe, skid steer, mini ex, saw, evacuator, and/or trencher/rock wheel, etc.
  • Understand and operate equipment within the capability, limitations, and functionality of the machine.
  • Know and follow the inspection of routine maintenance of the equipmen

What you'll do

  • Helps in securing, relocating and organizing materials, small tools, and equipment from and back to appropriate storage areas.
  • Keeps work area and equipment clean by collecting and disposing of scrap, excess materials, and refuse.
  • Keeps equipment, tools and material clean and organized.
  • Assists in pulling wire, lifting, shoveling, raking, hoisting, and positioning materials.
  • May operate less complicated hand tools and equipment under direct supervision of a foreman or senior operator.
  • Digs trenches by use of hand tools and equipment.
  • Assists in mounting strapping, placing and burying conduit.
  • Assists more senior personnel in less complicated electrical installations, connections, and terminations under close supervision.
  • Performs other project related duties and assignments as instructed by supervisor.
  • Meets attendance standards and complies with late/absence notification procedures.
  • DOES NOT WORK ON ENERGIZED CIRCUITS OR EQUIPMENT.
  • Helps keep equipment maintained daily.
  • Performs all tasks in a timely manner.
  • Understand and follow jobsite directions and instructions, both written and verbal.
  • Comprehends and abides by Stansell Electric customer policies, procedures, and safety guidelines. Reports all violations to immediate supervisor.
  • Understand/Perform other project related duties and assignments as instructed by supervision.
  • Read and interpret maps and instructional manuals.

Qualifications

  • Wearing personal tool belt at all times on the job. The waist tool belt as worn weighs approximately 30 pounds with tool pouch, tools, and nail bags.
  • Completing a full day's assignments involving one or more of the following; bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, reaching over head, and repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
  • Digging trenches and excavations, either by use of hand tools or power equipment.
  • Operating two handed tools/equipment such as cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, and jack hammers.
  • Transitioning from employee parking area or street into construction work areas and to access all levels of the building, even if the only means of access is by O.S.H.A. approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction, but acceptable for use.
  • Wearing all personal protective equipment at all times as required by the specific task; eye and face protection, steel toe leather work boots, hand protection, head protection, respirator, arc flash protection, etc.
  • Operating company vehicles with manual or automatic transmission.
  • Working a 40 hour work week, with overtime and off‑hour shifts as required.
  • Possession of good hearing & vision, normal or corrected.
  • Positive identification of wiring colors.
  • Apply the Injury Free expectations to the equipment being operated.
  • Able to select the right equipment for various tasks and conditions.
  • Able to assess site conditions to properly set up a job.
  • Demonstrates the lifting and rigging requirements for entry level equipment.
