Role Description

The Operator role is a full-time, on-site position based in Nantucket, MA. In this role, the Operator safely operates assigned vehicles along designated routes, following schedules, traffic regulations, and company policies. Day-to-day responsibilities include assisting passengers with boarding and exiting, providing courteous customer service, collecting or verifying fares as needed, and maintaining a clean and orderly vehicle. The Operator performs basic pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, reports mechanical or safety issues promptly, and completes required logs, reports, and incident documentation. The role may also involve coordinating with dispatch, responding to schedule changes or route adjustments, and supporting ADA paratransit needs while maintaining a strong focus on safety and service.

Qualifications

• Ability to safely operate buses or similar commercial vehicles, with a clean driving record and, where required, a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements.
• Strong customer service skills, including clear communication, professional demeanor, and the ability to assist passengers of diverse backgrounds and mobility levels.
• Attention to safety and compliance, including adherence to traffic laws, company policies, and relevant federal, state, and local transportation regulations.
• Basic vehicle inspection and reporting skills, with the ability to identify and communicate potential mechanical or safety issues to maintenance or supervisory staff.
• Reliability and time management skills, with the ability to follow schedules, handle route changes, and work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed.
• Ability to work on-site in Nantucket, MA, and perform the physical aspects of the job, such as sitting for extended periods and assisting passengers.
• Prior experience in transportation, transit operations, or a related field is beneficial but not required; familiarity with ADA paratransit services is a plus.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred, along with a commitment to participating in company training programs and ongoing professional development.
