Pay Rate
- Level II: $70 - $100/hour on W2
- Level III: $95 - $125/hour on W2
Work Type
Spring, TX 77389 (Onsite)
Overview
- The Operations Geologist is responsible for the planning and execution of client’s drill‑wells world‑wide.
- To accomplish this the Operations Geologist must be competent in Well Planning and Surveillance, Integrated Pressure Prediction and Site Investigation; understanding key deliverables such as a Tophole Prognosis, Pore‑Pressure Prediction, and completed well‑design.
- Key to the successful drilling of a well is close communication with the Business Unit (Geoscience, Reservoir Engineers), Petrophysicist, and Wells Engineers throughout the design and execution phases of the project, hence the Operations Geologist must be a good communicator, Integrator and be highly organized effectively changing tact as conditions dictate.
- Proactive, flexible, and creative (“out of the box”) thinking while driving updated Well Planning Process for deepwater wells/activities.
- Evaluating multiple scenarios and ensuring close communication between all parties involved whilst managing expectations to ensure a safe, timely and economic completion of the drilling program meeting all geologic and operational objectives.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate Safety leadership and uphold client’s Safety culture ensuring No Spills and Nobody Gets Hurt.
- Strong understanding of Integrated Pore Pressure Prediction and Surveillance.
- Strong understanding of Site Investigation including Shallow Drilling Hazards Evaluation (tophole prognosis) and riserless drilling geohazards.
- Well Planning and Surveillance (may include but not limited to):
- Coordinate with the Wells organization and the project Petrophysicist in the contract technical evaluation for MWD/LWD, Wireline, and Mud Logging services (Procurement & Tendering).
- Compile and document Well Objectives, Formation Evaluation plan, operations & communication protocols, and data/sample distribution into a Geological Program.
- Compile well and evaluation plan information in support of Company Regulatory groups (Regulatory).
- Participate/lead regular coordination and planning meetings with the Wells Engineering and Geoscience Teams.
- Facilitate and communicate with Wells Engineers and project Geologists to produce a well plan and casing design which will enable complete evaluation of geologic objectives whilst maintaining an economic and cost‑effective solution.
- Design and establishment of casing seat and TD selection protocols, coring and formation evaluation programs.
- Capture lessons learned for future operational improvements.
- Compile and distribute final well reports, logs, and supporting documents to all parties in a timely fashion.
- Presenting technical work to Subsurface and Wells teams including but not limited to TD protocol reviews, prespud meetings and after‑action reviews (AAR).
Skills and Qualifications
- BS/MS in Geology from a recognized institution.
- Experience as an Operations Geologist.
- Onshore and offshore (barge, jackup, MODU) drilling experience.
- Fluent in both written and spoken English, have good organizational and coordination skills, and be able to work well with others.
- Flexible to work outside 8am-5pm to provide 24 hours Ops Geo coverage during critical operations as required.
- Offshore experience including platform/deviated well drilling with associated technologies (e.g., LWD, WL).
- Experience with mud logging; cuttings description; real‑time image logs; and correlating them to determine lithology and well path.
- Experience with basic FE interpretation for identifying rock type, fluid type, borehole conditions, etc.
- Experience utilizing azimuthal ultra‑deep resistivity (AUDR) for geosteering deepwater highly directional/deviated wells.
- Experience with managed pressure drilling (MPD) practices.
- Experience with production drilling environments and challenges, i.e. depleted sand, wellbore stability, fluid type uncertainty and etc.
