Job description

Operations Team Leader, Air & Ocean

The Operations Team Leader, Air & Ocean will support customer service and shipment activities by coordinating and directing teams tasked with filing Customs entries, Exports, and in‑bond transactions. The focus is on the timely filing of customs transactions and personnel management.

Responsibilities
  • Provide the highest level of customer service to clients, vendors, and service providers by handling requests, resolving issues, and contacting them for additional documents and/or information.
  • Monitor shipment advances, volumes, and ETAs daily to ensure the timely processing of Air, Ocean, Rail, ISF, and AES advances and process flow based on best practices per shipment type.
  • Act as liaison between CBP, other government agencies, and operations to ensure compliance with CBP regulations by enhancing knowledge of new Customs policies and regulations including PGAs and FTAs.
  • Research tariff and classification of goods and ensure entries and documentation is prepared and completed to comply with US Customs regulations.
  • Run internal and external reports for audits, data analysis, and cross reference.
  • Identify possible problems and communicate suggestions for operational improvements and assist in implementation of changes.
  • Showcase skills with Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Identify potential challenges/risks and solve problems efficiently or work with leaders for a solution.
  • Foster a fast‑paced culture led by example in terms of accountability and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Effectively prioritize and manage team tasks and personal tasks to meet KPIs and deadlines.
  • Lead and mentor, fostering a positive and productive work environment and resolving escalated issues as needed.
Leadership Responsibilities
  • Manage a group of 5 to 10 employees.
  • Assist with performance evaluations for direct reports.
  • Assign tasks to team members.
  • Provide training and guidance to direct reports.
  • Monitor work volumes of direct reports.
  • Supervise team members, conduct team meetings, monitor attendance, and work schedules.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in custom brokerage or logistics.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office.
  • High level of organization, time management, and attention to detail.
  • Leadership, communication, and decision‑making skills.
  • Experience identifying operational improvements and assisting in implementation of changes.
  • CCS designation or LCHB training preferred.
  • Ability to function in a time‑sensitive environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking in processes, procedures, issues, and communications.
  • Legal eligibility to work for the Company at all times.
  • Valid passport and willingness to travel occasionally to other office locations in Canada, the USA, and Mexico.
