Job summary

PPG is seeking an Operational Support Engineer I to join our manufacturing team. The role focuses on conducting process audits to ensure adherence to SOPs and work instructions, identifying gaps, and leading sustainable corrective actions for operational excellence.

The position is on the night shift (Friday–Sunday, 6:00 pm–6:00 am) with a 4-hour weekday shift to reach 40 hours. Bachelor's degree in engineering is preferred; 0-2 years' experience is acceptable and internships are a plus.

Qualifications

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail; able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular, structured process audits on the manufacturing floor to verify SOPs and work instructions.
• Identify process gaps and systemic deficiencies through audit findings and data analysis.
• Apply structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 5-Why, Fishbone/Ishikawa, 8D) to determine root causes of non-conformances and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop corrective actions.
• Monitor effectiveness of actions through follow-up audits and performance metrics.
• Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives on the plant floor.
• Contribute to development and revision of SOPs, work instructions, and training materials.

We are seeking an Operational Support Engineer I to join our manufacturing team. A successful candidate will be primarily responsible for conducting process audits across manufacturing operations to ensure personnel adherence to established standards and procedures. This individual will play a critical role in identifying process gaps, performing root cause analysis, and implementing sustainable corrective actions that drive operational excellence.

The shift for this position is Friday, Saturday and Sunday: 6:00 pm to 6:00 am. Will need to work a 4 hour shift during the week to hit 40 hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct regular, structured process audits on the manufacturing floor to verify that personnel are following documented standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions. Observe and evaluate manufacturing processes against defined standards, flagging deviations and non-conformances in a timely manner
• Identify process gaps and systemic deficiencies through audit findings and data analysis
• Apply structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 5-Why, Fishbone/Ishikawa, 8D ) to determine root causes of non-conformances. Collaborate cross-functionally with production, quality, and engineering teams to validate findings and develop corrective action plans
• Monitor the effectiveness of implemented actions through follow-up audits and performance metrics
• Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives on the plant floor
• Contribute to the development and revision of SOPs, work instructions, and training materials

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering preferred
• Entry-level; 0-2 years of relevant experience; Internship or co-op experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. Willingness to learn and drive change by identifying issues on a production floor. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

The salary for this position is $70,000 to $80,000.
