Job summary

SMS group Inc. is seeking a Production Supervisor to direct and coordinate the activities of the production department, planning schedules and ensuring on-time delivery while upholding quality standards.

The role requires leadership of a team in a heavy industrial environment, with responsibilities including safety, compliance, and continuous improvement of processes. Eligible candidates have a 4-year degree or equivalent experience and 2+ years of management history in manufacturing.

  • 2+ years of management experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Experience in a heavy-industrial environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of corporate policies and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and coordinates activities of production department(s).
  • Plan department operations using production orders and schedules.
  • Coordinate manufacturing activities to meet quality targets and delivery dates.
  • Review reports and resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance issues.
  • Inspect machines and equipment for optimal performance and utilization.
  • Promote safety initiatives and enforce safety policies.
  • Supervise 0-25 employees and handle hiring/training needs.
  • Maintain production data records and address worker grievances.
  • Provide leadership on safety, quality, and productivity.

About this position

What we do:

SMS group is an industrial equipment manufacturer for the steel industry. We design, build, and service equipment and steel plants across the globe with a strong technical services/machine shop network in North America.

Summary

Directs and coordinates activities of production department(s) in processing materials or manufacturing products in industrial organization by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations.
  • Prepares operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
  • Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Resolves worker grievances or submits unsettled grievances to the Operations Manager.
  • Compiles, stores, and retrieves production data.
  • Promotes safety initiatives and ensures safety policies are followed at all times.
  • Offers leadership regarding safety, quality, and productivity, offering guidance and direction to subordinates.
  • Maintains a strong shop floor presence to ensure policies and procedures are adhered to and serves as the primary point of contact for questions and concerns.
  • Conducts hazard assessments to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Directly supervises 0-25 employees
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Job Qualifications

  • 4-year college degree or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of overall professional experience in management / specific discipline
  • 2+ years in a position of similar complexity, scope, size and impact.
  • Knowledge and experience in manufacturing gained at successive levels of responsibility in multiple areas of plant/factory/heavy industrial environment(s)
  • Knowledge of corporate policies and compliance
  • Demonstrated prior success in achieving results using team driven philosophies
  • Demonstrated proficiency in supporting corporate interest from remote site locations and ability to communicate and exercise very positive people skills.
  • Experience using GSS is a plus.
