Job Description

Our Plant Operations Supervisor on 2nd shift will support the Plant Manager in managing total plant operations and delivering superior customer satisfaction by driving results and exceeding expectations in safety, service, quality and cost.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide hands‑on leadership by mentoring, coaching, and guiding employees; address employee relations issues and foster a positive and productive work environment.
  • Lead and enhance safety performance on shift; promote a proactive safety culture through training, accident prevention and rehabilitation programs; ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Manage shift maintenance activities; resolve equipment breakdowns with the maintenance team to maintain uninterrupted plant operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives on shift; implement best practices to enhance efficiency, quality and cost‑effectiveness across end‑to‑end operations.
  • Monitor and manage the plant’s operational costs and yield; work closely with the Plant Manager to optimise performance and contribute to the overall plant objectives.
  • Address performance and attendance matters in collaboration with HR; ensure all plant staff meet operational expectations.
  • Ensure full compliance with CHEP procedures and work instructions; complete tasks accurately and in line with company standards and operational goals.
Shift
  • Current: 4 pm – 12:30 am
  • Effective April 13: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM

Direct Reports: 25+

Major/Key Accountabilities
  • Supervise all production employees; oversee production and shipping schedules based on raw and finished goods availability.
  • Provide hands‑on leadership; mentor and coach all employees; resolve employee relations issues.
  • Support plant administration to ensure compliance with established policies.
  • Manage cost and yield performance of the plant with the Plant Manager, aligning with the plant’s P & L.
  • Support cost‑control initiatives and process control within the plant.
  • Review operations activities, including local transportation, to maintain compliance with all Federal, State and local laws (OSHA, DOL, DOJ, EPA, FD).
  • Drive safety improvements (Zero Harm) across the plant.
  • Ensure consistent execution of SOPs throughout the plant in accordance with the PMS Commercial Organization and Global Supply Chain.
  • Deliver best operational practices and cost efficiencies while maintaining critical quality and raw material utilisation standards for customer satisfaction and plant profitability.
  • Ensure compliance through teamwork of all Standard Operating Procedures within the plant.
  • Identify Lean opportunities to eliminate waste.
  • Recruit, train, develop, evaluate, motivate, delegate and monitor plant staff.
  • Drive efficiencies in asset utilisation through proper transportation scheduling, dispatch and driver management while meeting customer expectations.
Experience
  • Prior experience in a plant supervisory role in an engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with private fleet management/transportation is helpful.
  • Strong customer focus orientation.
  • Strong people‑management capability, including non‑exempt production workforce.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering strong employee relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross‑functionally.
  • Experience managing safety performance and programs.
  • Understanding of supply‑chain practices, metrics and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with Lean Thinking concepts and practices.
Skills and Knowledge

    Qualifications

    Compensation Statement

    The salary range for this position is $61,680 – $84,810.

    Salary ranges are based on skill sets, experience, training, licensure, certifications, geographic differentials and other business needs; actual amounts may differ. Other forms of compensation may accompany the base pay. Please speak to a Talent Acquisition Partner for details.
