Operations Supervisor

Department: Plant Office Administration (Exempt)

Description

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for leading operations, ensuring quality and integrity, people, and production objectives are achieved. Develop and manage processes that will maximize food and human safety, teamwork, product quality, and productivity to meet our customer service goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Foster a positive work environment aligned with Trinidad Benham's values, policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure employees understand departmental priorities and goals while optimizing staffing and departmental efficiencies.
  • Provide training and guidance to production employees, including Mill, Eye, Pack line, and Treat Operators.
  • Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Safe Quality Food (SQF) standards while upholding company safety policies, maintaining a clean workspace, and promoting a culture of safety, with accurate and timely documentation.
  • Facilitate open communication and teamwork across departments.
  • Assist employees to meet both customer and company expectations.
  • Coordinate daily and weekly schedules with Area Manager to ensure production goals are met.
  • Manage processing (mill and eye) activities, as well as treating and packaging operations, to meet quality standards, production timelines, and shipping deadlines, while ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all related equipment.
  • Maintain quality and viable inventory by implementing proper receiving and monitoring practices and ensuring accurate processing reports for effective inventory management.
  • Prioritize and enforce safe work practices and procedures for all employees, while maintaining an adequate inventory of safety supplies, including gloves, safety glasses, face shields, and protective clothing.
  • Evaluate labor utilization, job responsibilities and duties. Anticipate staffing opportunities and coordinate training, career path opportunities, and succession planning to minimize downtime and maximize operational effectiveness.
  • Maintain clear and proactive communication with the Area Manager, team leads, maintenance staff, and administrative personnel on all operational aspects. This includes regularly discussing equipment status, reporting and address repair needs, coordinating troubleshooting efforts for mechanical issues with the maintenance team, and ensuring all parties are informed of any operational changes or updates.
  • Ensure housekeeping responsibilities in process areas (milling, packing, treating) are consistently maintained.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise harvest operations and seasonal projects at the local plant facility to support production goals and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee receiving and shipping operations to ensure proper inspection, documentation, and system entry, while ensuring prompt processing, accurate transactions, and secure loads. Additionally, coordinate the staging and movement of products between processing areas and off‑site locations.
  • Manage warehouse conditions, ensuring pest control and sanitation, and act as the primary contact for pest control operators.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for railcar placement and releases, coordinating with the office personal and EIRR local crew.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of dry edible bean seed classes, varieties, pedigrees, and quality characteristics to support accurate product identification, inventory management, and operational decision‑making.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of seed treatment products, including safe handling practices, treatment mix calculations, accurate application rates, product labels, pesticide regulations, and proper use of treatment equipment. Obtain and maintain any required pesticide applicator license/certification and ensure compliance with all applicable safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Required education and experience
  • High school diploma
  • Bachelor's degree or 5+ years of equivalent experience; preferably in food manufacturing, production with a focus on dry beans.
  • Strong knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), and food safety regulations.
Preferred education and experience
  • Proficiency in production management software (e.g., ERP systems) and data analysis tools for tracking performance and optimizing output.
  • Mechanical aptitude, including a solid understanding of equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair in a manufacturing setting.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends, to meet production demands.
  • Excellent organizational skills for workflow management, task prioritization, and meeting production deadlines.
  • Commitment to safety protocols and a dedication to maintaining a safe work environment for all employees.
  • In-depth knowledge of bean processing operations, including sorting, cleaning, packaging, and quality control, and familiarity with related manufacturing equipment (e.g., Mill, Electric Eye, Packaging Machinery).
  • Ability to adapt to changing production requirements and address shifts in demand or equipment malfunctions.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with cross-functional teams, including maintenance and quality assurance.
