Job summary

Firehawk Aerospace seeks a Manufacturing and Testing Site Manager to oversee daily operations at our Midland, TX production and testing facility. You will ensure safety, quality, regulatory compliance, and schedule adherence while leading cross-functional teams in a high-stakes environment.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in aerospace manufacturing or test operations, expertise in lean manufacturing, and a proven ability to drive continuous improvement. Domestic travel up to 10% is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing, test operations, or facility management in aerospace/defense.
  • Experience leading teams in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong lean manufacturing and continuous improvement knowledge.
  • Experience with documentation control and regulated production environments.
  • Clear communication and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations of manufacturing and propulsion test facilities, ensuring safety and quality processes.
  • Ensure compliance with DoD, EH&S, OSHA, ATF, and other regulatory requirements, with emphasis on safe handling of energetic materials.
  • Oversee facility readiness, including equipment maintenance, calibration, and capital improvements.
  • Coordinate resource allocation and workflow across manufacturing and test departments.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, ergonomics, and cost reduction.
  • Lead crossfunctional efforts between engineering, quality assurance, manufacturing, and testing teams.
  • Ensure site compliance to all procedures and safety documentation.
  • Support production transitions from development to full-rate manufacturing.
  • Monitor performance metrics and lead corrective actions.
  • Mentor and develop team members across operations.

Job Summary

The Manufacturing and Testing Site Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations at Firehawk’s production and testing facility in Midland, TX. This role ensures adherence to safety, quality, regulatory compliance, and schedule requirements while leading cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate has strong experience managing manufacturing operations, inventory management, test operations, and facility leadership, with an emphasis on continuous improvement and operational excellence.


Key Responsibilities


  • Manage daily operations of manufacturing and propulsion test facilities, ensuring safety and quality process are followed

  • Ensure compliance with all DoW, EH&S, OSHA, ATF, and other regulatory requirements, with special emphasis on safe handling of energetic materials

  • Oversee facility readiness, including equipment maintenance, calibration, and capital improvements

  • Manage resource allocation, and workflow optimization across manufacturing and test departments

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, ergonimics, and cost reduction

  • Coordinate crossfunctional efforts between engineering, quality assurance, manufacturing, and testing teams

  • Ensure site compliance to all manufacturing and test procedures, including work instructions and safety documentation

  • Support production transitions from development to fullrate manufacturing

  • Monitor performance metrics and lead corrective action initiatives when necessary

  • Lead, mentor, and develop team members across operations functions


Basic Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Engineering Management, Industrial Engineering, or related field

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in manufacturing, test operations, or facility management in aerospace, defense, or similar industry

  • Experience managing teams in a fastpaced production or test environment

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing principles, including lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies

  • Experience with documentation control, work instructions, and regulated production environments

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DODissued security clearance

  • Ability to travel up to 10%


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience managing energetics, explosives, or hazardous test environments

  • Background in rocket motor manufacturing or propulsion system testing

  • Experience implementing automation, robotics, or advanced manufacturing technologies

  • Certification in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or related disciplines


ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.


Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This position requires mobility to work in manufacturing and test environments, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds. The role may require use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety footwear, hearing protection, and flame-resistant clothing. The position may involve working varying shifts based on production and testing schedules.


Security Clearance

May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Requires U.S. Citizenship and ability to meet federal requirements for access to sensitive information.
