Job summary

Position Summary

The Shift Leader provides leadership across the shift and broader site to ensure safe, stable, and effective operations. This role is responsible for supporting frontline teams, helping stabilize performance and team dynamics, and serving as a visible leadership presence that drives accountability, consistency, and engagement. The Shift Leader partners closely with department leaders to build leadership capability, strengthen execution, and support employee retention through coaching, communication, and timely issue resolution. This position also serves as the primary point of contact during the shift for operational communication, escalation, and emergency situations, ensuring critical information is shared quickly, and the appropriate response is coordinated.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership coverage across the shift and the broader site
  • Set clear priorities and ensure consistent execution across departments
  • Reinforce safety standards, PPE use, and participation in safety programs
  • Serve as a visible leadership presence that promotes accountability and consistency
Deliver operational performance
  • Lead the team to meet or exceed daily KPIs such as OEE, schedule adherence, changeovers, throughput, and yield
  • Coordinate work assignments and equipment changeovers
  • Troubletshoot operational and quality issues to maintain production flow
  • Maintain accurate production records and support audit readiness
Stabilize and support the team
  • Help create a consistent and supportive shift environment
  • Address day-to-day issues quickly to reduce disruption
  • Reinforce standards and strengthen team accountability
  • Support employee retention by fostering engagement and responding to concerns
Develop leaders and team capability
  • Coach and support department leaders in real time
  • Build leadership capability that improves execution and team effectiveness
  • Train mentors and develop team members to create a more agile, cross-trained workforce
Drive problem-solving and continuous improvement
  • Identify losses and opportunities to improve throughput and yield
  • Lead or support root-cause problem-solving with urgency
  • Use continuous improvement tools and daily performance data to improve results
  • Partner with maintenance, quality, and supply chain to remove barriers
Act as the shift point of contact
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for communication during the shift
  • Escalate issues appropriately and ensure timely follow-up
  • Coordinate response during emergency situations
  • Keep key stakeholders informed so decisions can be made quickly and effectively

  • Strong communication, judgment, and escalation management—acts as a trusted point of contact during the shift, communicates clearly, responds effectively in urgent situations, and ensures the right issues are elevated at the right time.
Education
  • A four-year degree or its equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience is required.
Certification
  • Six Sigma and/or Lean/Continuous Improvement experience and certification preferred. Obtain internal Lean Green Belt certification and Kata coach certification within one year of employment.
Experience
  • Requires a minimum of six years of experience in a manufacturing or consumer-packaged goods environment, including supervisory or leadership experience. Specific experience in the department for which the candidate is applying is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Competent knowledge of SOPs and cGMPs within a CPG and regulated environment.
  • Experience working within a rapidly evolving environment, with the ability to adjust to changing job requirements, set standards in a start-up environment, articulate vision, and create a high-performing culture.
  • Experience leading and coaching projects, daily improvement initiatives, delivery of required results across shifts, and Kaizen events.
  • Experience ensuring that improvements and procedures are sustained through ongoing coaching and auditing of the assigned department.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ERP systems. JD Edwards and Power BI skills are a plus.
  • Experience coaching, developing, and building high-performing teams, including cross-training and empowering individuals.
Physical Requirements
  • While this position will primarily reside in an office environment, there are expectations that the individual will spend periods of time each week on the production floor.
Environment
  • Exposure to disagreeable elements, as may be found in a typical manufacturing environment, is moderate but constant.
  • May stand and walk around for the majority of the shift on concrete floors.
  • Must be able to work 6:00 pm to 6:30 am on a 2-2-3 shift rotation.
Safety
  • The incumbent must be able to perform this job safely without endangering their own or others' health or safety.

National Target Base Pay Range: $80,000.00 - $133,000.00.

The salary range for this position is based on national standards. For candidates in California and the New York metro, the Target Base Pay Range is $88,000.00 - $146,000.00, to reflect the cost of living and market conditions in those areas.

Actual compensation will take into account a wide range of factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to geographic location, education, experience, qualifications, and job-related skills. It is not typical for an individual to be hired above the midpoint of the range for their role, and compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. This information is provided to applicants in accordance with state and local laws.

Base pay is only one component of our total rewards offerings, and we will take the full offering into consideration when presenting an offer of employment. Our total rewards package for this position may also include an annual performance bonus, Medical, dental, and vision benefits, 401(k) match, and other wellness benefits.
