Job summary

Allison Transmission is seeking an entry-level Operations Engineer for a 4-year rotational program in Indianapolis. You will rotate through key areas like Floor ME, Quality Engineer, Production and Maintenance supervision, and more to gain broad manufacturing exposure.

You will learn to analyze processes, support equipment improvements, and contribute to safety and quality initiatives while working closely with experienced engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 0 years’ professional experience; at least one summer/semester internship.
• Experience with Unigraphics or CAD software and gear manufacturing is preferred.

This entry-level position will rotate through 5 of the 7 key areas of operations engineering, for up to 4 years. Each rotational assignment may be 6 to 12 months in length but could vary based on individual situations or organizational needs. Rotational assignments may include but are not limited to Floor Manufacturing Engineering (ME), Quality Engineer, Production Supervision, Maintenance Supervision, Factory Controls Engineering, Product Engineering and Core Manufacturing Engineering (ME). The order of these rotations may vary based on departmental availability or timing of your placement. As a Rotational Engineer, you will be provided with key learning objectives during each rotation and a manager to provide you with developmental feedback. Upon successful completion of the Rotational Assignment Program, you will be placed in a manufacturing engineering department based on your interests and the organizational needs. **Key Responsibilities:*** Assist in the development of manufacturing systems with the focus on continuous improvement related to quality and throughput capability of production equipment.* Work is of a technical nature where decisions are made within general practices and procedures, where supervision is available to handle unusual situations.* Direct the design, development, and/or improvement of manufacturing processes.* Study product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment.* Apply knowledge of product design fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials.* Assure product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.* Occasional instruction, training, and assignment of work to a small group of employees.* Analyze process elements for improved manufacturing capability.* Analyze equipment deficiencies for manufacturing improvements.* Provide technical support for specific plant operations.* Provide technical assistance for maintenance in area.* Physical presence in the workplace is an essential function.* Implements and actively supports the plant and corporate safety policies and initiatives **Key Performance Measures:*** Rotation specific SMART Goals & Objectives designed to complement the Rotational Engineers learnings for their current assignment.**Competencies and Behaviors:*** High level of analytical ability to solve complex problems.* Effective oral and written communication skills.* Knowledge of tooling, manufacturing process, and manufacturing equipment required.* High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.* Understanding of machine and manufacturing processes. **Qualifications:*** Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related Engineering field **Experience:****Required*** 0 years’ professional experience* At least one summer / semester of Engineering internship **Preferred** * Experience working with Unigraphics and other CAD programs.* Experience in gear/spline manufacturing, gear geometry, analytical gear evaluation.* Experience in part processing using various grinding, turning, machining center equipment.* CNC programming experience with a thorough knowledge of machine control systems.* Project management experience with regard to machine procurement, cost analysis, and process validation.* Direct manufacturing experience with at least one of the following component groups: rotating and reciprocating components, gears, and/or prismatic parts.Allison Transmission is an equal opportunity employer.
