Job summary

Samtec, Inc is seeking a Production Manager to lead multiple work centers, ensure equipment uptime, and guarantee production plans are executed with quality and cost targets in mind.

You will drive Lean initiatives, define KPIs, coordinate with supervisors, and mentor staff to improve safety, efficiency, and on-time delivery across shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, lead, and supervise a team of Production Supervisors, machine operators, and Support Staff across all shifts and locations to achieve corporate goals and metrics.
  • Communicate consistently with Supervisors across all shifts to align with Samtec policies and standards.
  • Participate in and manage transfer of products between plants as necessary.
  • Establish training and cross-training plans to ensure process consistency and workforce flexibility.
  • Define the Vision, Mission, and Objectives for the Production Department annually.
  • Define KPIs and metrics to evaluate production performance and set targets.
  • Define responsibilities of key functions within the area.
  • Oversee orders and manufacturing deadlines; inform other departments if schedules deviate.
  • Monitor department/equipment capacity and utilization; implement proactive actions to maintain service levels.
  • Assist in setting associate goals and conducting evaluations; provide regular feedback and disciplinary actions when needed.
  • Oversee work schedules, including overtime and leaves.
  • Coordinate with Quality to initiate corrective actions and continuous improvement programs to reduce defects.
  • Review ERP/MRP data for decision making.
  • Maintain standard operations, plant layout, waste reduction, lean manufacturing in both low and high-volume environments.
  • Adhere to troubleshooting guides.
  • Be the overall production area owner.

Job description

Summary/Objective: The Production Manager is a self-motivated contributor who will be responsible for the operations and processes of multiple work centers by ensuring all equipment is functioning at maximum output per the demand requirements. The Production Manager is also responsible for adherence to specified processes, execution of the production plan, and ensures that, daily, products and services are produced efficiently, at the correct amount, right cost and level of quality, and are responsible for continuous improvements. The Production Manager is classified as an Exempt employee, with an expectation of 40 hours per week, minimum, and overtime, as required to perform job functions.

Essential Functions/ Responsibilities:
  • 1. Responsible for managing, leading, and supervising a team of Production Supervisors, machine operators, and Support Staff across all shifts and locations to achieve corporate goals and metrics.
  • 2. Responsible for consistent communication to Supervisors across all shifts with the goal of maintaining a work environment which aligns with Samtec policies and standards.
  • 3. Participate and manage the transfer of products from plant to plant as necessary.
  • 4. Establish training and cross training plans, ensuring consistency in our processes and practices, as well as flexibility in our work force.
  • 5. Define the Vision, Mission, and Objectives for the Production Department on an annual basis.
  • 6. Define or meet the pre-defined KPIs and metrics to be used to evaluate performance of production and determine realistic targets.
  • 7. Define the responsibilities of the key functions within the respective area.
  • 8. Responsible for all orders and overall responsible for manufacturing deadlines and to inform other departments and Operations Manager when orders deviate from the schedule.
  • 9. Responsible for the constant monitoring of the departments/equipment capacities and utilization to implement proactive actions to maintain service levels.
  • 10. Assists in establishing associate goals and completing associate evaluations. This includes but is not limited to regular feedback to associates on their performance, and disciplinary action.
  • 11. Responsible for overseeing work schedules. This includes but is not limited to overtime and approved leaves.
  • 12. Responsible for communicating/coordinating with the Quality Department to initiate corrective action and continuous improvement programs to enhance productivity and reduce defects within the department.
  • 13. Responsible for checking information from internals ERP/MRP systems for decision making.
  • 14. Responsible for standard operations, plant layout, waste reduction or elimination, continuous improvements, engineering change control, and LEAN manufacturing experience in low and high-volume environments.
  • 15. In charge of adherence to following trouble shooting guides.
  • 16. Be the overall production area owner.

Required Experience:
  • 1. 5 Years of Management Experience in a Manufacturing environment.
  • 2. Proven problem-solving abilities.
