Job description

Plant Manager – Wabtec Railway Electronics (WRE), Germantown, MD

The Plant Manager role at Wabtec Railway Electronics (WRE) in Germantown, MD is responsible for the full business leadership of manufacturing onboard electronic equipment, subsystems, and related components.

What you will do
  • Lead the site’s global supply chain and facilities leadership team in continuous improvement initiatives focused on EHS & Site Compliance, Quality & Reliability, Customer On‑Time Delivery, Functional Cost, Inventory, and Culture.
  • Oversee employee health and safety, regulatory compliance, and sustainability.
  • Apply lean and continuous improvement methods to enhance safety, reliability, quality, and cost.
  • Maintain financial controllership over work‑order transactions, inventory, manufacturing variances, and functional cost.
  • Establish site strategy and secure resources to achieve long‑term objectives.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and project management teams to implement projects that reduce product cost through optimized work scopes.
  • Drive and sustain a culture of accountability, compliance, and operational excellence with both exempt and hourly workforces.
  • Ensure adherence to all Wabtec, government, customer, and applicable policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Develop capacity and business contingency plans to maintain delivery capability during demand shifts or facility issues.
  • Provide leadership, counseling, and support for the plant team, guiding career development and training.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a Plant Management role or large Operations Supervisory role (or equivalent experience).
  • Prior operational leadership experience.
  • Depth in EHS, shop operations, customer service operations, manufacturing engineering, quality, materials, sourcing, and material logistics in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize lean, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to adapt and flex in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong record of driving accountability, improving culture, and influencing both exempt and hourly teams.
  • Strong coaching and team engagement skills.
  • Understanding of operations and business financials, including shop functionals, manufacturing variances, productivity, and inventory.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
Salary and Benefits

Salary range: $104,800–149,830. The actual salary may vary based on training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands, and location. Benefits include health, welfare, and retirement plans, and potential annual bonus if eligible.
