Operations Mechanical Engineer - I, II, or III

Overview

The COMET contract manages ground systems, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, supporting programs like the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, Space Launch System, Orion MPCV, and Launch Services.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform mechanical engineering tasks supporting spacecraft and payload processing for NASA programs including the Orion MPCV, LSP spacecraft, and ISS payloads.
  2. Support the Spaceflight Processing Directorate as a mechanical engineer, focusing on assembling, testing, and supporting launch of NASA hardware.
  3. Develop understanding of mechanical systems, troubleshoot issues, and resolve non-conformances.
  4. Prepare ground support equipment for mechanical assembly, ensuring compliance with drawings and safety standards.
  5. Apply knowledge of processing operations, ground-vehicle interfaces, and system design.
  6. Contribute to procedural development, testing, training, and certification processes.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned.

The role involves system analysis, developing procedures, troubleshooting, and maintaining spacecraft mechanical systems.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and customer interface skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, drawings, and schematics.
  • Proficiency in managing multiple projects.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and internet applications.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance if required.
